Crow! It's what's for dinner!!

Ever have one of those moments....

When you're just so sick of excuses and lies that you immediately think the worst?

Suuure.... Blood clot you say.... Absolutely, you MUST go to the hospital to get that checked out!! Your girlfriend needs to drive you so she needs to leave early?? What are you waiting for? Go!

I was at my desk when two floor employees rushed into my office.

"I've gotta go. I have a blood clot in my arm. I need to go to the hospital."

One of our newer 18 year old employees was holding his arm up, bent at the elbow, to show my the underside of his arm near his armpit.

"See, it's swollen. I have to go!"

My immediate thought was, blood clot?!? His underarm is swollen and his mind goes to blood clot??

"Ok. If you feel concerned that you need to be looked at, you should go. I'll write you down on the board as an early departure."

The girlfriend had been idly standing by while the gun show was happening and spoke up.

"I'm going to need to go too. I have to drive him."

Wait... What?!?

Yah.... Right!! And I'd better tag along to administer CPR in case something happens.

"You have to go to?"

"I have to drive him."

"Um, ok. Before you guys leave, you need to let your leader know."

And they were off.

I was thirty seconds into an internal tirade about dependability when their leader appeared in my doorway with a piece of paper in his hand.

"Can you believe those two?? He's eighteen years old, how does he even know about blood clots?!? And SHE needs to drive him?? Good lord...."

By now Randy Andy was chuckling and started to hand over the paper. It was a doctor's note detailing his 'underarm thrombosis'.

"He really does have a blood clot. He brought this in last week and I forgot to bring it back here until he told me just now he was worried about it."

"What?!? Are you kidding me??? Oh My God!! I feel like such an idiot! I immediately assumed he was lying. Why does she have to leave early though, he can't drive himself to the emergency room with a blood clot?"

"No, all he has is a learners permit. He can't drive on his own."

Randy Andy was now full on laughing and I'm certain I was a million shades of red.

"Oh My God, I'm the worst person alive. I hear so many stupid excuses around here I've gotten to the point I think everyone is just lying to me. I'm such a heel!"

When I saw Blood Clot Boy working Friday I made it a point to say 'hi' and ask him how he was doing.

He's on a new medication and he thanked me for my concern with a smiling face.

This was definitely a lesson to me....

It may be tempting to do so, but you can't always jump to conclusions!

Happy Saturday!!

Not all your fault no one told you about him .
We where all kids we wanted to leave work to party.
We took the train to work about 4 of us then hopped on the city sun way for about 5 blocks every morning.
Well one week the sub was being worked on so we we where late two days in a row. Our boss said one more day late don't come in.
So we took the earliest train we could. So we get to the city subway the next morning and it was down again. We knew we would be late. So we got on the pay phone called our boss. First friend I'm sick boss said ok. Friends said hold on next 2 friend get on he said they are sick then hands me the phone hi Joe Tom I'm sick won't be in today. So back on the train we go home. Get in our cars get our hunting gear on met at my buddies home we drive an hour and a half and start hunting. We did get anything but it was better then work.

Surely he should have gone straight to the hospital instead of going into work? You weren't to know how bad it was.
He was a bit of a clot himself to be honest.
He'd been at the hospital earlier in the week, only I didn't know about it because his leader didn't bring his note back. I had a few words with the leader about that too.

Yep, that's an easy trap to fall into. It always seemed a difficult balance to find, between complete cynicism and complete naivety, a healthy dose of skepticism with an open mind helps though McLade!
I'd like to think I have an open mind.... I just see way to many people working the system and getting away with stuff. It's kind of hardening me, in a way.

It's been many, many, many years since I've had a job that didn't involve managing. Ugh....

I have always wondered about blood clots. They seem to do their fare share of damage, to the brain, the lungs. I always wondered about them and one day I asked a doctor to explain them to me. About a week later my boss has one in his lung and had to have a medical procedure to take care of it. He is 78yo so it was pretty damn serious. Happened right after his second covid shot.
Blood clots scare me. When I was 22 I had a school friend who had died from a blood clot in her lung. The scary part is, you can be any age and they go undiagnosed easily. I hope your boss is doing ok.

I'm pretty sure I would have been thinking some of the same thoughts you had...like how does he know about blood clots? And why does SHE need to drive? Even after finding out he only has a permit, I'd be asking why? What 18 year old doesn't have a license?
Even though he actually did have to go to the hospital, with all the lame excuses you hear day in and day out, it's only natural this one initially sounded like total BS.
And the big question....why the hell did their leader NOT turn in the notice about his medical issue???
It's a super expensive process to get a drivers license where I live. A lot of parents can't afford the $600 worth of classes and testing they have to go through to get it, so sometimes the kids wait until they're 18 and do it on their own because it's less expensive.

We do the best we can....
In basic training the Drill Sergeant was making his last round and a wimpy trainee came up to him,
I have to go to the Hospital, I just drank a can of Brasso, water and sand...lol! I just can't take this anymore I need out of the Army......
The Drill Sergeant picked up another can, shook it up and said, Now drink this can, we don't waste a stomach pump for just one can......LOL!
The wimp was back in formation the next morning.......
It's amazing how much effort people will put into getting out of stuff instead of just doing stuff.

I've heard a lot. Cat Scratch Fever, stepped on a Lego, cat pissed on my uniform, I was supposed to be back from vacation but I'm not, my personal favorite was temporary blindness.

Woke up blind but was ok to do take out for lunch.

The underling I mentioned in a previous post has a lot of drama or imagination. I've recently heard:
-my Mother-in-Law is getting out of the hospital and I need to pick her up.
-my dog has to go to the animal hospital, he can't stand up or walk.
-I got a ticket and my car impounded for no insurance and I won't be in because I need to get it insured and out of the pound.
All of these took more than 8 hours to take care of and all happened before 2pm and lasted until after 10pm during her shift. At 1 point last week she had missed 18 hrs in a 5 day span. I call BS, to hell with the crow.
We have more than a few of those too. One guy hasn't worked in like 3 months and he's still employed. In his case, weak leadership. Nobody has the balls to fire him. He keeps saying he has medical issues but I haven't seen a single doctor's note to back it up.
