A Secretary of State story... I think every state probably calls it something different, but here in Michigan, we call our Department of Motor Vehicles the Secretary of State. A pain in the ass regardless of any name it goes by.... I was at work last week when I received a random phone call from a woman who stated she bought my car. "Um, I don't think so, my car is sitting out in the parking lot." "Yes, I did. It was for sale on the side of the road." "You have me confused with someone else, I'm sorry." She then proceeded to tell me the story of how she came into possession of my old car. Apparently the guy who had purchased my old car had neglected to put the car into his name the entire time he had it. Four years he's had that car! "I haven't owned this car in several years now. I don't understand why you're calling me now." "I just need you to get a title release for it so I can put it in my name. We are in desperate need of a car, our car broke down....." and the entire white trash story unfolded, including the part where her mascara wand had broken that morning. "Ok, this car has been paid off for 10 years now. I'll call and have them fax it to Secretary of State." Simple enough, you would think.... Turns out, I'd financed my car when I bought it brand new in 2007 from GMAC Financing, which had gone through several name changes, finally becoming Ally Financing. Ally financial had no record of my car because it had been so long since it was paid off that it had fallen out of the system. I did not have the title or any of the VIN info that they needed to look it up because I HAD NOT OWNED THE CAR IN YEARS. Yah, it was *that* kind of a pain in the ass. All the new owner had to do was call them up and get the release herself. Fast forward to yesterday when my cell phone starts blowing up. You'll never guess who it was!! Ok, so... yes, it was in fact White Trash Car Woman. She is now at the Secretary of State and needs my signature on something. "Do you know how hard you are to get ahold of?!?" She sounds irritated. "Yes, I do know how hard I am to get in touch with while I'm at work. I'm at work." "Well, I need you to sign something." "You're going to have to explain a little better than that." "The lady at Secretary of State says you need to sign this form in order for me to get this car transferred out of your name. I'm here right now." Are you fucking KIDDING me?!? She put the woman who had been helping her on the phone and I had apparently signed the wrong line on the title when I originally handed it over to my . Yep, that's right. In the beginning, I had given this car to my to drive around in when he turned 16. He never actually drove the car because he didn't feel it was 'manly' enough so he sold it to a guy who knew his dad. And, there in lies the problem! NEVER sell shit to 'friends'! Especially if they are friends of ex's!! At 11:30 am I told Boss #2 I had to leave to go to the Secretary of State to sign a paper. It would be 5 minutes..... It was 12:40 pm when I returned back to work. I'd missed one conference call and my lunch. It took me 30 seconds to sign my name on a line, one hour and 9 minutes to get called back up to the desk, and zero minutes to know I never wanted to go through this bullshit again. Happy Wednesday! |

Exact same thing happened when I sold the crappy mobile home I lived in at college to a co-worker "friend" whose daughter was going to college and needed a cheap place to live. Apparently she never titled it in HER name and the people SHE sold it to had same issue. Part of me was like..hmm...it is titled in my name...sounds like it is MINE! Ugh. How annoying!

You are way too nice. I would have had white trash woman bring me the document to sign. Today will be filled with sunshine and lollipops. lol  that chick would have had to bring those papers to me and i would have met her in the parking lot. sorry, but my time and money is important to me and not about to forfeit either over some random (stranger). on top of wondering who or how they got my phone number in the first damn place

Damn. That was fast! Over here in Calihell,, DMV visits take about 2 hours with a appointment. Guess who never goes to the DMV? YEP. This guy lol

Oh dear....... though I'm glad it's not just me who has that kinda day! On the other hand McLade, ye'd be bored oot yer skull if life was dull!!  White Trash Car Woman will of course be moving into Apartment Complex Stud's old place next week, you do realise that dontchya??

I'm curious as to how this woman had your phone number. Not to mention she has some enormous balls to call and basically demand that you help her solve HER problem! She's fortunate that you were so accommodating to her demands as most would have told her to fuck off.

Dealing with the state is a pain, yeah. DMV here normally has a long wait line too plus it is hard to get any 'newbs' working for the state to help you that know anything. One of my warehouses was recently broken into and some motorcycles from my collection were stolen. Old Harley's, Honda's and Cushman motorcycles from the 1950's and 1960's. I got a call from the sheriff's deputy that I sent the serial numbers of the stolen units to. He said th eserial numbers weren't valid. I took an entire day, with titles in hand and drove to the city to present them to him. "Those serial numbers aren't valid" he said once again. Then it dawned on me... he had NO CLUE that the standard 17 digit serial number only became a standard back in 1981. I showed him on his state computer system where there was a provision for older unit serial numbers to be entered... wasted day plus they haven't found any of my bikes yet. One of them alone is valued at $230,000.00.. pisses me off !! Idiots these days... ~Wee~

Here the DMV is just the DMV. I went to renew my driver's license and had to bring my birth certificate and my social security card because the license they issue isn't considered identification.

O the fun we all have at the DMV In NJ it an all day afair get there 30 minutes before doors open and your still 12th on line so how door open and people are already on line now your 25th. Now you wait and count how many people a head of you walk out do to not having proper paperwork. Waisted time there. Then you have one guy right in front of you not wanting to it his middle name on his liesance half hour later just as I'm about to hit this kid the office manager said put it on or go home. Then I get my paper work ok get a number and sit down. It now lunch time. Some has my number is now 95 there in 40 I take a nap. Finally 95 I get up and pay I'm in my way back home for dinner. Now NY I live in two different worlds I walk in 3 people on line @ 10 am 5 guys sitting in a corn talking away . One woman working the desk. First person on line done and gone Second just need to fill out paperwork from bin #3 and #& I'm next all paperwork read the eye chart now stand in from of this screen And flash picture take it shown on the screen . Ask if you like it or not. yes she said that the biggest smile I've every taken. I said the is the nicest DMV I've ever been in I pay her thank her and the five guys are still sitting around talky away.two more people on line in and out in 15 minutes. Now with Covid it still the same but you need an appointment lolololol

Today will be a better Day! I was transferred to Michigan from Indiana a long time ago. Went to the Secretary of State to get a Michigan Drivers License, quickly signed the form that the clerk filled out and was told I would receive New license in the mail. That evening reading the my copy notice the clerk had marked Female for my sex. Went back the next day the completed new form and said the incorrect license would still be mailed and I should cut it up and wait for the new corrected license. I still have the incorrect License, which always fun for giggles.
