John Q. Public

I work at a large grocery chain store here in my city. For the LIFE of me, I cannot figure out why people will walk up to me and say "Do you work here?"

I have on a bright colored vest with the stores name it, I have a badge clipped on to the left pocket with the STORE name and MY name on it, plus I am standing at my cash register #4 with a huge sign flashing that says OPEN. Many times I get asked also "Are you open?" UGH!!! I just stare at them for a moment like I can't believe you just asked me that!!

So to those who ask if I work here, I will jokingly say "Only when the manager is around!! "But I would really love to say "No, this is my bowling shirt."

And to those who ask if I am open when I am standing behind my register with a huge OPEN sign, I will say "Well, that's what the sign says!" But I would really like to say "No, I am standing here just to look pretty."

The lame things I hear every day working in retail from John Q. Public....It just reminds me of what will never come out of my mouth when I am out shopping in a store. I prefer to appear brighter and smarter than that!!

Thank God I am working part time because I want to stay busy after retiring from a long career...If I had to listen to John Q. Public on a full-time basis asking lame questions I would probably shoot myself in the head!! lol

Big truth: There's never a shortage of stupid people... and sometimes I'm one of them.

Well I bet now you won't ask if an employee works there. A better approach could be "Pardon me, I have a question."

I know and I am very happy to be retired from work now..I worked at a lot of jobs since I was 16 and the last was a cafeteria for 7 years..I worked night shift because it suited my lifestyle and home life but the dipshits I waited on were omg some real winners.. Of course I was the only one who worked night there 5 a week 11-7 and get the same questions from the same lame ass people all the time..'Are you the only one working?" .. "well yes I am but I be happy to get someone else for you, lol..its like 2 in the morning ..can we wait till 7 when my shift is over? " . The plant where I worked hired shift workers because production workers were not considered that smart...maybe they thought I was like them and only pretended to cook...ha ha

Right......the lamest questions ever from the public! Like, "Are you the ONLY cashier today?" To which I will say, "yeah kinda looks like that! I don't make the store schedule."

why people will walk up to me and say The answer is, unfortunately, in your question . . . people. Common sense is no longer common, many many people now-a-days are not well educated or bright. A bit scary really

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

It really is scary these days/ Lje when they come up, unload all their groceries and flapping on the cell phone the whole time. When I am done, I just stand there with my hands folded staring at them. They will say "Oh I need bags." Then I bag the items, and wait for them as they are STILL flapping.....Then they say how much is it? I point to the screen never saying a word. When they are ready to walk away with the receipt I hand them I will say loudly "Your welcome!"

UGH people can be so rude but I do enjoy giving it right back....

What should really terrify you is the fact that
they drove a car there!

Using more than all the road!

I know....when I was a banker I always got that. "I didn't bring my glasses, can you help me read this?" Then I would say "And you DROVE here today?"

It amazes me that they ask you a question and the Dip Shits don't try and Text You...

One of my favorites along this line, was when the dollar stores first started popping up. There was one near me called, Everything's a Dollar.

I'm in there browsing around, and this lady besides me has a item in her hand. She says to one of the employees.."this doesn't have a price tag, how much is it?" The kid says hang on. Walks over to the store phone, hanging on a post and pages..."customer needs a price check on isle 3".. To which all the employees throughout the store yelled out at once..."EVERYTHING'S A DOLLAR".

I think sometimes, people just don't think before they speak.

I used to be mistaken for someone who would work at a large chain hardware store. I don't even work in retail.

Maybe you were shopping in that store and they thought you looked like a manager or something. That always happened to my former husband, he wore a dress shirt and slacks then kept his pen in his shirt pocket. People asked him to help them every store he visited on his way home from work!
