Boring Barrel Update

You may remember my post from earlier this month, where I bitched about receiving a defective barrel for one of my rifles and the manufacturer being apathetic at best. Or you may not remember it; no one would blame you.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't post an update about this sort of thing, but today the manufacturer changed my mind. The super fast Readers Digest (does anyone remember that mag?) version is they received the obviously barrel on 9/2, but didn't bother to check it in until 9/9, at which point I received notification it would be inspected in 7-10 business days. No surprise, that window passed, so I decided to hammer them on social media over the weekend. They'd just posted something on insta and I replied with some unpleasant comments about their shit quality and zero fucks about customers. They asked for my RMA, which I provided, then responded it had been shipped last week. I asked for a tracking number, but they were done talking to me.

Fast forward to today, when I received a note from their zero personality customer service person, indicating the barrel shipped today. So, in addition to making garbage, they're liars. Had it just taken forever to get a replacement, I'd have chalked it up to their abysmal customer care, but lying to a customer on social media to conceal it...that's really beyond the pale.

Needless to say, I've shared their dearth of ethics with an appropriately wide audience.

In that same post, I also shared my extremely responsible and logical purchase of a long range precision rifle. I needed something to shoot! My motivation for that purchase was to be able to participate in my club's 600 yard shooting nights. The rifle that was down could have handled it, but...it was down. For some context, the farthest I've ever shot a gun was 300 yards, and that was only recently. So, this was a big step. So, last Wednesday, I loaded up my new rifle and joined the group. (Same one that agreed with vaccine mandates) The good news is I shot pretty well. There's some room for improvement, but that should be addressed with greater concentration. We have a target system that shows your hits, real time, on your phone, so after every shot, I picked my head up to see where I was hitting and to think 'I'm hitting a target over a third of a mile away!'. Neither of those actions are beneficial for accuracy.

Customer service at its finest.......bah! A bit like a.f.f sometimes!!

It must take a huge amount of concentration and skill to hit long range targets, I think I'd enjoy having a go at that.

Apparently, Ballistic Advantage is putting out a lot of shit these days, so their quality dept is pretty busy.

Long range shooting is challenging, for sure, and requires a lot of patience. Although, I have to admit to having it pretty easy last week, because there was basically no wind. All I had to do was set my scope up to point the gun about 90 inches high (had to play with that a bit) and use proper technique on the trigger pull. Accounting for wind is where the skill and experience is required. Just a 5 mph cross wind will push my bullet 14" off target at 600 yards. And winds are frequently variable, with different velocities and directions between you and the target.

But looking over and seeing you just hit the X ring is so satisfying.

Do you know how much I enjoy your posts Sir? Extremely. Your writing, vocabulary usage and wit is TOP notch! I often smile and raise a brow while reading.
Laughed at "pew, pew..." Even though I know those shots were FAR louder than that!

Congratulations on the shooting distance!

Sorry to hear about the trials and tribulations with the shoddy customer service. I had my own run-in recently with an obnoxious grout and tile guy.

I do enjoy your rants but sincerely worry about your blood pressure. Hang in there.

Thanks for the kind words, Jules. You know just how to brighten a man's day.

Funny you mention how loud my shots were. Of course, I was using one of the suppressors I built. There was a general consensus among those shooting with me 'that gun's damned quiet'. The guy shooting next to me said he was aware when the gun went off, but just barely.

At least you can get face to face with a contractor; it's much more difficult to be apathetic in person. BTW, the replacement barrel showed up today. It'll be listed for sale in the next hour or so.

Much as I'll claim it's not the case, when a hot chick's effusively complimenting me, my innate grammar Nazi tends to check out.

BTW, Oxford commas make me hot
