Friday Farm Day

Yeah, I know I don't live on a farm, but I like the alliteration, it just rolls off the tongue...doesn't it?

Exciting things are happening in the garden! Well, exciting to .

First up, we have San Marzano Tomatoes. I'm so excited to make pasta sauce with these

Next up, check it out, my peas are podding. I'll be eating fresh peas soon!

Then we have my passion fruit starting to vine up the palm with the help of a grate I nailed t o it.

Finally, I'm super excited to see these purple peppers. Purple peppers, for those who don't know, are sweet peppers from what I've been told. Though I have yet to taste them, I'm stoked to try!

Again, though I know I keep repeating this, this is my first year successfully growing any food and I'm doing it without pesticides or fertilizers beyond compost from seed.

Gardening, I now contend, is a skill that can be learned....even when you're an advanced middle aged person such as myself.

I heard that if you dance naked by the garden at night that the cucumbers will grow four inches !

If I dance in the garden at midnight, I'm probably attempting to get something to grow...just not the cukes.

I was not able to pick a peck of pickled peppers this year. Production was quite low. The purple ones had the most fruit, but they were so small they were no good for stuffing, and it was difficult to even slice them for other things.

I had green/yellow/red ones all summer, these just started flowering last month.

Gardening in Florida comes with a huge learning curve for me,at least.

Never had much luck growing peppers, purple or otherwise, dang it. Wish you were close enough to teach me...especially about rolling your tongue round things.

EnigmaInitiative replies on 12/18/2021 7:21 am:
Peppers like the heat...so maybe try during the summer?

Our seasons are total opposite but did have some snow peas I grew last summer with some beefsteak tomatoes that were so good in my salads. Nothing beats fresh from the garden my friend and nice to see the fruits {Vegetables) of your labour here Hun.xoxo

I mean, it's winter here. Just that my winter currently looks like 76F (24 C) degrees while yours are probably more like 24F (-4C). It will get colder here in January, but in the eight years I've lived here it's never gotten below 40F (4C).

I want you to know that I looked up all those conversions just for you.

Looks like there was, and is, a lot of sex going on in that garden of yours. Never heard of purple peppers. I wish you joy in the eating and the pleasure of making it come about.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

EnigmaInitiative replies on 12/18/2021 7:44 am:
There is Hell, I had a whole shit load of threesomes over the summer with cukes, watermelons, and zucchini.

Thanks, I'm enjoying the process almost as much as eating the fruits of my labor.

Great looking garden!

Up here in these parts garden season usually runs from mid-May through September.

I start my peppers and tomatoes from seed indoors in mid-March so they're ready for planting outside when the when the weather and ground is warm enough. I don't use fertilizer either, I mulch the plants with fresh grass clippings from mowing my lawn.

Good luck with yours.

EnigmaInitiative replies on 12/18/2021 7:47 am:
Fresh clippings from your lawn is great, I totally get it. We've spread wood chips all over our lawn taking out most of the grass...I'm starting to plant in ground now that the first load has broken down.

I'm really enjoying the process, though I did try in your parts at one time. Michigan, but still struggled. I suspect I'm just far more interested than I was when I was younger.

All I seem to grow in my garden are weeds! Come on over and help me out.

Weeds are a pain in the ass. If I was there, I'd help you grow some stuff.

Anything that can roll off the tongue is a good thing indeed!
Thrilled to see your garden and the successful bounty. My father has been tending to a garden here filled with tomatoes, peppers (Bell, Jalapeño and Serrano), okra, and a leafy one called Saluyot. Also naturally grown. I have a black thumb so I leave it to him. Lol

My name is MrWrong and I approved this comment

EnigmaInitiative replies on 12/18/2021 7:49 am:
Ha

I've heard of Saluyot, but haven't tried it...yet.

Eh, you could learn, I used to think I had a black thumb too.

Thanks jajo!

Yeah, it's definitely therapy and a calming influence on my life. When I go out to the garden I tell Nick I'm going out to "play in the dirt".
