 It's all about getting you to pay for gold. There used to be ways of earning points, but I'm not sure that they're still available.

 You can earn some points from the site. Click on the points in the upper right hand section of the screen, it will tell you how you can earn some points. Also, friends or other people can donate you points. Other than that, if you do not have points you can not do anything on the site any more. They just want your money for a gold membership. If you ask my opinion, I would not pay for the gold membership because the site keeps getting shittier and they do not want to fix any of the problems. Good luck to you on Heated Affairs.

Yea and there used to be a half gallon of Ice Cream in the box but not now... I don't know of anything that is left that will earn you points, maybe more photos or some of the things on your main profile..

The object is to collect as much cash as they can.. good luck..

 This is a business. If members could contact each other for free less would pay. I get the complaints about glitches. Not about not being able to do what paying members can do. The ad says free to join. Does it say free the use the features?

the ad also says "Your Gold Plan gets you unlimited access to all members."
yes i does say " But, free members can’t contact you"... but the op stated " If gold members communicate with you, surely there must be a way for you reply them if only as a matter of common courtesy....."
so you see by not allowing the free member to REPLY to he paying member, is the gold member not the one that is being cheated?
i agree with you this is i business, and the reason for a business is to make money... but it is also the DUTY of a fair business to deliver what they promise

 I think tackling the points issue was in Jeremy Corbyn's manifesto...we will never know now.
