Niagara Falls... Glass Globes... and Crystal Rams... 🤗
Niagara Falls... Glass Globes... and Crystal Rams... 🤗 Note: A F F is still chopping words. Please be patient. They were poor. They had been, on only one family vacation... ever. It was, the only gift, her father, had given her... that she had always, cherished. The dolls and toys and whatever else there might have been... had disintegratted or... just, been thrown away. I held that glass, snow globe, carefully... in my tiny hands. I was captivated, by its beauty. "Niagara Falls", is what it said; I would learn, much later. I was three and a half years old. I marveled, at that smooth glass. I peered into the ephemeral world, it held within. I stared, as those tiny sparkles of white snow, fluttered about, so gently.... sooo slowly. They took forever... to rest, before I could shake, that glass bulb, again. When that globe, slipped from my fingers... I didn't know what to do. I ran to her. She ran back with me. She fell to her knees, when she'd seen, what I'd done. She didn't speak. She didn't say a word. She buried her hand in her face, clutching one broken piece of glass and cried. I'd never seen my mother, cry before. I cried along side her. Leaning my head against her shoulder. I didn't know why, but I felt, as if my world... had just crumbled. I recall speaking. "I.m sorry mommy." She looked at me and held me, as tears streamed down her face. Many year's later, my oldest , came running to me, with something in her hands. "What's this daddy? It looks like a goat. Is that what it is?" It was indeed - a ram. A miniature crystal ram; that my mother, had given me, for my birthday. It symbolized who I am; an Aries. I looked at my and smiled. "Yes it is." I took it, from her little fingers and put it, in a place I knew, she'd never reach. Those small things (once broken), just can't be put, back together. Not even with duct tape. It's nice, to be able to hold memories, in your hands, isn't it? They feel real... when you can touch them. ................................................. So... - . What are the most cherished, gifts that hold memories for you; or are pictures and videos more important? - . Have you, or someone else, ever broken anything that has meant something special? Note: A F F website, is still chopping and deleting words. Please be patient. . . ...................................................... . . ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O |

I don't really have many gifts that I've hung onto, for all these years, except that crystal ram. I do have volumes of pictures and videos. Those... are the things, I cherish most. They are a record of who we were, as a family. I might have a couple of other things, lying around the house that mean something to me. I'll stumble across them, once in a while and smile. 😊 ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O

I really regret, having broken that "Niagara Falls, Snow Globe". I still have... the shell of it. I'm surprised that my mother, didn't smack me in the head, for having broken it. 😱 ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O

I do have some of my Grand Mother's old furniture. A mahogany dresser, circa 1910. I can't help but think about my grand parents whenever I see that. 🤔❤️ ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O

I have several things that belonged to my kids, parents, grandparents and even my great-grandparents. Each time I look at them or touch them, I am flooded with fond memories and transported back to special places and times. The same occurs when I flip through the stack of photo albums. Your story is a beautiful reminder of how precious memories are.

I have tons of stuff. All of it brings back beautiful memories. Hand crafted furniture, a piggy bank that sat on my dads dresser for as long as I can remember... so many things from parents to great grand parents. Great post.

I've got lots of mementos, ticket stubs, pictures, locks of hair. I even save my braids that I've chopped off over the years.

I have a few odds and ends and momentoes of my family. Other than a glass dish that belonged to my grandmother, and a few pieces of high end cookwear that my mother gave me over the years before she died, everything else is packed up awaiting my daughter's decision on what to keep and what to give away. And yes, I know most of them hold no memories for her, we've been going through them together so I can provide the memories to her. When my husband died, other than his signature leather ballcap and the cane he used the last couple of his life, I kept nothing. Very few pictures either, in fact only one that was framed and I keep it in a drawer now out of sight. I think the "gifts" that hold the most importance to me right now about him is our circle of friends, that we are able to to still gather together, laugh and talk about him as if he was still here. A funny comic that reminds them of his sense of humour, or facebook memory that involves him, that someone shares randomly with me, that's the best gift of all.

I have several things that belonged to my mother and my grandmother. Over the past several years, I have been finding new homes for them since I only have one child to pass them to. Nieces and nephews and my cousins children .... lots of options in the generation below me. I can only remember breaking one thing that made me cry. I had a beautiful, hand-made ceramic candle holder that my husband and I bought on our honeymoon. Several years after my husband died, the shelf it sat upon collapsed and it was shattered. Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

No, I don’t really have the space but I make do. Once in awhile, I open boxes to try to ‘downsize’ but end up finding it too emotionally difficult. In my living room, idly sits the piano given to my grandparents as a wedding gift in 1928. It’s out of tune now and has become a ‘dust collector’, yet I can’t bring myself to part with it. My kids will have to deal with it and all the other things when I am gone. That piano sounds like a worthy salvage... no? Tune it up, see what it's worth and give it a new home '; rather than relying on your kids to do it? Memories are strange things, aren't they? They can pop up and hit you in the head, any time... Most of them, are good ones...I hope? 😊 ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O

You're lucky to have the space to keep all those reassures. 😊 It's always a gamble as to whether or not our kids will appreciate the memories stored in those items. You think they will? 🤔. It sounds like that clock had a special value for you. It sounds like a worthy project... 😊 ... is there another way to look at it Going Too Fucking Far NEW Blog Features RevealeD O O A Foolproof Method Posted Over on that NEW site O O

Excellent posting, Paul... Brings this to mind-- My mother painted--mostly oils; and did some pastel chalk later on, when her arthritis took her hands. Never could understand how she managed to do work so much more detailed using blocks of chalk when she couldn't hold a brush. She passed on back about 35 years ago, and I managed to retrieve some of her art from my sister. Two paintings she did were my favorites--an Oglala Sioux chief and his Oglala Sioux "squaw". The "squaw" was my actual great-great grandmother. The Chief? He was my mother's interpretation of who he might actually have been. I kept them for years. I met a kid back maybe 10 years ago and we became about as close-friends as one might ever expect from a 23yo kid and a 60yo geezer We still are--talk on the phone 2-3 times a week. He, now, is the son to me, who I never had... more so than simply a friend. He is of Lakota Sioux progeny... and his great-great grandfather was actually Chief of the Lakota tribe. Of course, I call him Chief... out of respect for our common Sioux heritage. I gave those paintings to him on his birthday, a few years ago. I felt he could eventually hand them off to his son... which son he now has. It seemed fitting. Now, he has a visual memory of the days when his fore-runners were the same as mine. And now... we are friend and brothers--and fathers and sons... and leftovers from the days of buffalo hunts... and prairie life... and peace of mind. And now... he has something to hand down to his progeny. Solar...

I have my mother's and my grandmother's crystal. As soon as I can get my hutch moved where it belongs I am going to use the crystal and if it breaks- so be it. My sister and I both have the problem that none of the younger generation wants nor appreciates the way things used to be made. I also found a play doh tree ornament I made for my mother when I was about 5. She kept it in her jewelry box. I have it hanging in my kitchen using a new ribbon. And I have preserved some old black and white photos from a trip we took to NC on a train from Denver (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

I have a few treasured items, they are treasured because of the memories. I don't know if there are any items that I would cry if I lost or broke...I might be quite sad about it, but not heartbroken. "Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax." – Mark Black
