Last week I left a note on Laura's desk...

days, everyone.

days until I am back in the US. It's funny going back and at my other posts on here, like my most recent one not long after I got here, and thinking that I going to get to actually explore. Through a combination of work, covid, and lack of private transportation options, I wasn't able to even come close to the amount of exploring I wanted to do here. Now don't get me wrong, I also know that is partially on me not being willing to try THAT hard once the restrictions started changing back and forth and getting confusing. Ah well, maybe one day we all stop panicking about this we can go back to something vaguely resembling normal.

That panic though, gave me an idea. Obviously everything I put on here is generally going to be opinions, so I thought I might get a out of airing some unpopular ones. Maybe some of those few of you out there that actually look at this will chime in and express some of your own, but here are a few of mine.

-Judging someone by virtue of their height before anything else is rude. Don't get me wrong, I know that people have their limits of what they find attractive, but basically telling someone to piss off over one of the things about them they have the least control over is kind if shitty.

-In most cases, close up pictures of a woman spreading her bits wide open looks like the face of a Predator. There. I said it. I'm just glad they don't have the toothy bits. If you don't know what I'm talking about, look up a screenshot of one of the Predators doing their weird screaming mandible thing in the movies. Fair warning, you won't be able to un-see it.

-Politics, sexuality, and/or your car are not acceptable substitutes for having a personality. I will welcome a conversation any day with someone whose beliefs are different than mine in most aspects. However, if all topics have to come back to what you drive, or what you like to do with your bits, or how you voted, or demonizing people that don't do/have/feel the same kinda makes you the asshole. Don't even get me started on the current topical issues. (Pretty sure I've had at least two women in the last few weeks stop talking to me even by virtue of not agreeing with them hard enough on boosters).

-Subsequently, identity is not a substitute for knowledge, experience, or skill. Period.

-Honesty and facts are not personal attacks. Just because there is a truth you don't t o hear doesn't mean it isn't true, and it doesn't mean the person saying it is trying to hurt your feelings (usually). I spent a year in Afghanistan where a large part of my job correcting paperwork, and it didn't matter how I did it, how thorough or not, how polite or not, etc etc, there always pushback because people don't like to hear they are wrong. Don't shoot the fucking messenger.

-On a more particular note, don't make excuses that will just come off worse in the long rung. Like telling someone that you are too old for them, then later going on a date with someone that is even older. Just say you aren't interested. I'd say you know who you are, but you thankfully aren't on here. And probably don't even remember saying it.

-Dave Chapelle isn't a transphobe, and his last special and the subsequent response to it just shows my point from above.

-Pineapple goes on pizza, fight me. Hawaiian pizza is delicious and I will die on this hill.

I know I'm veering into topics that are generally immediate rapport killers - politics, religion, and sexuality - but that's kind of the point isn't it? I'm not going down the rabbit holes of shots, pandemic responses, etc, because I don't to drive my self nuts getting into the weeds. However, I'll happily have a conversation with anyone who is willing to have a civil discussion. Like I said earlier, these are all opinions. Some more subjective, and some not, but generally opinions nonetheless.

This place is starting make me feel a bit feral towards my coworkers. Living in the barracks with people that only ever contact you when they need something is grating on the mind and the soul. The phone rings or the emails pop up in the office and it is because someone has a need. On the weekends? If they don't need something I don't exist. I have said quite literally no words out loud to another human being today, and that can't possibly be healthy or normal.

I can't get out of here soon enough. Gonna spend some time between MD and NC (why my profile is back in MD) before I drive out to Texas at the end of next month.

Anyone have any good pit stop/sightseeing recommendations?

I look forward to hearing what (or if) you guys have to say about your personal unpopular opinions.

Bull out!
