Something for Nothing

"I was told I still have to work while I wait for the results of my COVID test to come back."

This is not the first time I've had an angry employee complaining about this in my office.

"Were you directed by a doctor or governing authority to get the test? The policy is, we respect everyone's choice to get a COVID test if they choose to do so but if you weren't directed to, you do it on your own time. If you want to be paid, you still have to work."

The problem is, back in the way beginning of this COVID shit, my company was giving out paid time off right and left for anything COVID related.

Tested?? We don't want you back! PTO time until you get those results!

Employees jumped on this bandwagon like gangbusters!

Yah, I'd really like a day weekend.... I think I'll get tested Friday morning and get the whole weekend off, with . Bonus!!

"I don't agree with this. My neighbors was diagnosed with COVID and she was hanging out my 's best friend the day before!"

"Did the health department call you or your and tell you quarantine?"

"No. They should have though."

"Whether they should have or not is not . I understand your concerns. I really do. Every single one of us here at work has these close calls every single day, believe . We work with the public."

"I was told the company got a money from the government to cover this! Why aren't they using it!"

, fuck-tastic!

Nothing like a good stick-it--the-man conspiracy!

"The company is using it for the employees who ARE diagnosed with COVID. They ARE using it for the employees who are required quarantine because they are directed do so by a governing authority. They ARE using it for the employees who fail a health screen due exposure."

"I fall into that exposure thing though!"

"Were you within 6 feet of your neighbors for more than minutes?"

"No."

"Then you haven't been exposed."

Not going lie folks....

I am SO ready for this whole COVID thing be over. Well, as over as it can be, anyway.

Until then, I get deal with this shit daily.

Happy Thursday!

Some days are tougher than others... But I'm usually a pretty patient person. I have to admit, though, I'm starting to get a little snippy with people at times. COVID really has me burnt out.

    Hmmmm, My experience C-19....
Saturday, April 10th, Cleanup/fixup day at the church, potluck breakfast, start work! My GD, 9yrs. wanted to help paint the deck on the old church, We got paint, brushes help paint the deck. I got home about 5pm,
Sunday evening all four in my son's family developed C-9 symptoms.
Monday, miserable 3 hr turn around to get tested! They did not tell me?
Wednesday, 14th, text my son to tell him I was going to go look at an RV, probably stay overnite! He called said they had been notified the test was positive .DUH!
Canceled my trip, of course, called the VA! wwhile I was waiting sent EM to my doctor, ask about testing and such. I talked to the nurse, she said testing as my option, BUT, I had been exposed regardless of test results I needed to quarantine for 10 to 14 days, plus while waiting to be tested around more people possibly positive! Did not get tested!
By Tuesday evening my Daughter-in-law and 2 grandkids wre over it, however my son is still having fever!
    Things I did learn!
As we all know the shot does not make u immune which means if u r exposed to C-19 again u will be contagious and must quarantine again!
All of the people demanding u be tested before meeting, appreciate ur caution, but it's does not matter!
The vaccine prevents you from needing to be hospitalized. You can still get it, you can still spread it, you just won't become as ill as what you could have become. I hope your family gets well soon!

Upon Return too Work , She had to show Proof of test & also Result !! Payroll Clerk would then have Her sign a form for the Government Mandated Time Off & Pay !!
It took 2 Pay Periods before the Pay would be on Her Check !!! If a Co-Worker was out with COVID & She had been in Close Proximity ; The Whole Testing Scenario was Repeated !! That Happened 3 more times !! She was Considered too be an , " Essential Worker " , because She worked in a Grocery Store !!
A lot of employees where I work had figured out how to work the system early on, but the company is tightening up a bit. So many people abused the time off policy and COVID leaves that it affected their fringe pay. I had a girl complaining today that he check was only half of what it should be. She was only being paid for 5 hours a day for her COVID LOA (which she didn't deserve! She was not actually told to quarantine but lied!) When I reminded her paid time off is based on her fringe time she said "But I work 40 hours a week." I then reminder her that her fringe is based on her average daily hours as calculated for the past year.

"You mean my time off is counting against me??"

Uh, duh! Stupid people.

Give em an inch and they'll take a mile. I once worked as Payroll Manager for a Casino where the policy was up to 3 days off for bereavement for a family member. It got abused so bad, that you had to bring in an obituary with your either your name listed in it as a relative or you could prove that it was a close relative. The put an end to it real quick. Hang in there!
You are right. Today I had a girl whose mandatory quarantine ended yesterday but she wanted to extend her leave of absence until Monday because she was out of town.

Really?? Out of town??

When I asked her why she was out of town and not quarantining like the Health Department had required her to do she said that she and her boyfriend tested negative on Monday so they were pretty sure they were safe.

Let me get this straight....

You are receiving time off with pay to quarantine for COVID but instead you are in Mount Pleasant visiting family because you tested negative and now you would like that leave extended until Monday because you aren't ready to come back.

Yah, no.

I don't like much more than a 3 day weekend, which by the way is THIS weekend!!!! Beyond that, I'm not active enough, so it's too much of me, Netflix, and a big bag of chips.
I only take long weekends in the summer when it's nice out and I can actually get out and do stuff. I hate winter, so time off is kind of wasted in winter. I'm like you, I end up vegging out in front of the TV the whole time.
