What's in a name?

What's in a name?

Quite a bit when someone has been calling you by the wrong name for over a year.

The restrooms where I work are a hub of activity.

People entering....

People exiting....

People milling about.....

They are quite possibly the water cooler of the retail world.

Frightening.

I was exiting the ladies room at the same time Fozzie Bear was exiting the men's room earlier today, we glanced at each other and said .

In the usual, walking in the same direction awkward small talk, we exchanged a few pleasantries as we were rounding the corner to the sales floor.

"Hey Nate!"

Coming toward us and heading into the men's room, Nate the Great returned my greeting and asked me if I would stop by the leadership office to help with something.

"Yes;, give a call when your done."

Fozzie Bear and I had walked about steps when he turned to , puzzled.

"What did you him?"

"Nate?"

"Why did you him Nate?"

"Because that's his name."

"I've been calling him Nic"

Unable contain myself, I burst laughing.

"Sorry, but that just made my whole . I haven't laughed this hard in forever."

"Why didn't he tell his name wasn't Nick?"

"[Fozzie]! He wears a name badge.... You've been working with him over over a year now. He was probably wondering how long it would take before you realized you were calling him the wrong name."

Fozzie Bear was NOT seeing the same humor in the situation.

It's a good thing I could....

Happy Tuesday!

I called a girl I worked with for a fairly short period the wrong name, I only found out when she left. Met her several years later and we both saw the funny side.

I hope Nic wasnae too upset......

Also, is Nic, aka Fozzie Bear, actually Nose Hairs?
Nope... All my nicknames are individual people. Fozzie Bear doesn't talk to me all that often, but he looks like the Fozzie Bear muppet. I suspect he may have a secret crush on me. Nick is also someone I don't talk to often, our shifts don't intersect very often. Nose Hairs is still Nose Hairs....

I would have owned up to it too.... He was a little mad at Nate the Great for letting it go on. I did tell Nate the story when we met up later, he laughed and said he never even noticed he was being called the wrong name. That had me laughing too.

I'm not good with names either.... I think a lot of it, in my case, is because I'm exposed to so many people on any given day. I can't keep it all straight.

Hmmm. I face the similar affliction.
I ALWAYS, draw the person's name and attach it to a character in a movie I've watched. I repeat it — their name —several times and... it seems to work.

    Most of the time.
    It's all good. 👍 ❗ ❗ 😎
I'm just all around had with names. The ones I have to remember I write down so I won't forget. It's tough when you only work with them once in a while and they aren't in your building or town in a lot of cases.

I'd be SOOO embarrassed to find out I've been calling someone the wrong name for any length of time... much less a year!!!!

I'm bad with names too, and one of the best things about getting older and not giving a shit is being able to say "I'm so sorry, I've forgotten your name...." My scratch pads after a shift at the office are filled with caller's names because as soon as they start to tell me the reason for the call, I forget their name!!!!
Oh, he was pretty embarrassed. I shouldn't have laughed so hard, I'm sure that made him feel worse. It's moments like that when I think.... That's it! I'm going to hell....
