The Unsolicited Compliment

The Unsolicited Compliment

Like a deer in the headlights....

I remain frozen in spot, staring awkwardly at the giver of the compliment, unable to comprehend what comes next.

Do I thank him?

Do I act non-nonchalant and shrug it off as if my life is an unending string of complements?

Do I shrink back and stare making an already uncomfortable situation THAT much more uncomfortable?

I think we all know what I ended up doing.

I was out on the sales floor talking with a coworker when a customer approached to tell me I had an enchanting laugh that made him smile.

He could hear it from a few isles over.

Naturally, I turned 5 shades of red and thanked him in Pirate talk.

Matey!!

Yah, makes no sense to me either, but he got a good laugh out of it. Lord help us all.....

I often give compliments though usually for something she is wearing or sometimes a laugh. When I do I try to wait till I may do it in passing on my way out so I do not look like I am hitting on her.
About the only answer to give to a compliment is a thank you and then go on with what you are doing.
I end up feeling singled out and on the spot... It's my anxiety. I always manage a gracious thank you, of some sort, even if it's in a fake pirate accent.

I know....i know....taken aback and all....BUT it takes a mere minute to say..." gee thanks, ive never been told that before" or whatever version you have. Say it...smile.....and walk away with the awkwardness...lol ~~
I did thank him... while holding a pirate ship dog toy.... Which prompted me to speak pirate. He got a kick out of it.

I said it does not seem right to say anything ,she has a boyfriend now .He said idiot don't leave her twisting in the wind , just say it and let her decide for herself what she wants .so I did in a non saying the word love way ,Well now 2 months later we are in love again .she has to handle the complications in her own way and I must be patient and supportive . Just say it !
I will definitely have to work on it. Your buddy is right, life is short. We need to make the most of it while we can.

Few things make people smile more than the sound of an infectious giggle or laugh. I would have done exactly the same as the gentleman. And I bet you accepted the compliment with more grace than you think you did!

    Lovely stuff McLade!
I laughed so hard I snorted just now.... LOL Now THAT was graceful. LOL

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

    thanks for sharing

    I enjoy these the most

my grandfather used to tell me if you had something to say to someone, that you should go ahead and do it, because you might not have the opportunity in the future

    I follow that

    have a great day

Otis Redding - "I Want to Thank You"

I want to thank you for being so nice now
I want to thank you for giving me my pride
    Sweet kisses too
    And everything you do
I know I'll never find another one like you
If I prove my love it won't be true
    Oh my my darling
    How can I forget you
Your grandfather was a smart man. There are so many things I wish I'd said to people, and did not.... Now I don't have the opportunity.

I guess if I heard some one that had a pleasant laugh, I might do the same thing, I would make it a more private moment. trying not to look or act as a stalker!!!

He seemed like a nice, harmless guy, a little bit older. I could see I was reminding him of someone else and it was a good thing for him.

I've never heard your laugh, but I've heard some laughs that caught my ear.
It's not obnoxious, but it carries. It's contagious and draws people in. It's genuine. It's a distinctive giggle that identifies me even when I haven't been seen. "Oh, good, I found you. I heard you giggling over here."
