Orientation was at 10:30 am....

Orientation was at 10:30 am.... Do you think they'll notice I showed at 1:30 pm?? I've seen a lot of things in my day. People leaving during an interview.... People not showing for orientation.... People not showing for anything OTHER than orientation.... But, I'd never experience this. I was sitting at my desk when I got a call from front. One of the new hires that was supposed be in the morning orientation was at the service desk. He wanted talk . I took my time heading front and had a couple of conversations on the way. Hell, I'm certain he understands! When I got there he was standing sheepishly off the side. "So, what happened?" "I overslept.... I'm so sorry.... I'm going buy and alarm clock....." etc "You realize this kind of gives an idea of what type of employee you will be, you know? It's not a good sign when you can't make it an orientation.... or call let your employer know you won't be attending." "I know. I brought my direct deposit information." That was needed YESTERDAY. "I'm going give you an opportunity turn this around, and show you actually do want work here. Orientation was this morning, you missed your opportunity for this week. I'm going do you a favor and allow you attend orientation on Monday, I don't normally do them on Monday, but I'm going give you a chance." "So, I can't start working this weekend?" Is he frigging kidding ?? "Nope. I'm required give you the proper training and onboarding experience help you be successful in your job. That starts with orientation and discussion of roles, responsibility, and policy." I felt like thumping this fucking . He's lucky I gave him a second chance. It's experiences like this that strip away my faith in human kind. |

Well when the schools have a system where everybody gets an award/ribbon or whatever and the general attitude of everybody is right and perfect etc and some peoples parents have the same attitude you end up with those kids that don't get informed about reality until they go get a job in the real world. Sometimes they just need to be educated a bit and they smarten up fast but others just don't want to believe that they have been living in a fantasy world and they aren't really all that special.

RESPONSIBILITY: SHOW THE FUCK UP Perhaps you should give the new hires a sheet of paper with that in bold letters. But that would also put you at a disadvantage since you would be assuming they could read...and comprehend what they read.

Some day he will wake up , we hope. If he just doesn't just let good chances at life slip away, some times it is hard to make them even understand " you may lead a horse to water, but he has to drink" have a good evening, be safe.

I used to work at well known nationwide auto repair shop. One year around 1990 we went through 29 "young adults" for part time positions in about 6-9 months. Either they quit or got fired. Always hard to find good help.

Hate to rub it in, but I got a new hire on Tuesday and she is awesome. She's been shadowing me this week and when we're walking and I forget where we're going or what we we're doing she's ready to remind me. I get so many things dropped in my lap as the day progresses that I need some extra memory.

OMG, that was so funny It brought back a few memories when I was in high school I wanted to go work for Safeway, a grocery chain down here so, if you went directly to the store to apply, the store manager would size you up and, if he had an opening you could apply for that. The store that was closest to my house four blocks away was a fairly new one, and the manager believed that high school kids needed to start at the bottom as baggage clerks. I wanted to be a checker (cashier), not a baggage clerk. So, I called the employment office and spoke to he Head of HR. I didn't realize who she was, I thought I was just talking to someone in the hiring department. Evidently, I had called during the lunch hour and the rest of the staff was gone. I explained to her, that I wanted to work as a checker, but, that they were only hiring baggage clerks at the store nearest my home. She, said that the store that was a couple of miles from my house was hiring checkers, and would I be able to make the drive? She wanted to know when I could start and if I could do training on Tues and Thursday evening or all-day on Saturday. I selected Tuesday and Thursday evening slot and started my part-time job (six year stint for the grocery store giant). A couple of years later, I met a young lady that I started dating, and, I came to find out that her mother was the VP in charge of HR for the stores. I'm laughing as I'm writing this. It's such a small world. thanks for sharing. hmm be safe Dr. John - "Right Place, Wrong Time" I been in the right place But it must have been the wrong time I'd of said the right thing But I must have used the wrong line I been in the right trip But I must have used the wrong car My head is in a bad place And I'm wondering what it's good for I been the right place But it must have been the wrong time My head is in a bad place But I'm having such a good time I been running trying to get hung up in my mind Got to give myself a little talking to this time Just need a little brain salad surgery Got to cure my insecurity I been in the wrong place But it must have been the right time I been in the right place But it must have been the wrong song

When I call to set up interviews, I occasionally get the angry "she's not here right now" from people. When I tell them who I am and why I'm calling, suddenly they change their tune. I always note this stuff for the interviewer to be revisited.
