As an older man ... does experience trump performance?

USC (University of Southern California) played ASU (Arizona State University) last night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. While this has little if anything to do with older men and dating, something happened before the game that caught my attention and may be the reason my fingers are typing out this blog posting.

With my seatmate, Andy, we share eight ( USC football tickets at tunnel 18 and have done so for 25+/- years. We have had as few as 5 tickets, usually 6, yet this year we ended up with 8. We can always (okay usually) find friends and family to enjoy an afternoon or evening game. It is a good time to catch up with others we have gotten to know over that 25 years who also sit in our section. Almost a little village/community of extended acquaintances, friends, fellow alumni and other fans.

USC's mascot is a beautiful white named Traveller. Traveller, before the game starts usually gallops down the middle of the field, after the band has moved to each sideline playing the USC "fight" song, "Conquest". It is a great spectacle in College football. The beautiful southern California weather, yesterday in the mid seventies and clear with blue skies and clear views from the Coliseum to the Santa Monica mountains and the Hollywood Hills. Watching a game early evening in Los Angeles is really the perfect way to see a college football game.

One of my pre-game rituals, especially when bringing a new guest or guests to the game, is to walk to tunnel 11 and visit the USC mascot Traveller, his handlers, owners and the rider. Not that they know me well, they have over the years seen me visit, stop by say hello and wish them luck. Actually several years ago, at an Alumni function, one of the women who attended the function with me, introduced me to many people in the Traveller crew. So that helps to have been introduced at least once!

So upon arriving at the Coliseum we took a walk around the stadium to tunnel 11 with a new friend, it was her first USC game ever, for her to see / meet traveller. She upon arriving at the trailer and staging locale for traveller, I greeted a few people I knew and introduced her to everyone. What was obvious, is she gravitated to the oldest guy of the group and actually gave him a big hug not even knowing him. Then I watched as she flirted with him over the next 15 minutes we were there at the staging area. It was quite a sight seeing this MILF in her mid 40s, working her magic on the older guy, of course with his experience he held his own with her, by the end he had her blushing a bit too.
