Coyotes aren't usually dangerous to humans...adult sized ones anyway. The standard advice is that you should "haze" them (yell, bang a pan, whatever it takes to scare them off) just because it isn't a good thing for them to get too comfortable in human occupied areas. I'm in the middle of a big city, but only a mile or so from a large park system on the Mississippi River. So we see coyotes wandering around in our neighborhood pretty regularly!
