Trump speech

To give the devil his due, Trump gave the best speech of his life last night. It was presidential and did not say how wonderful he was, except obliquely.

But as nice as it was to have Trump show some discipline, he has a big, big problem.

The Democrats basically did not applaud, and were not with his program.

Under the current rules, anything important needs 60 votes to get past the Senate. The GOP has 52 votes in the Senate and not all can be counted to follow Trump. That means at least 8 Democrats have to be on board.

Trump has insulted Chuck Shumer, Nancy Pelosi and others in his characteristic manner.

Insulting people you need favors from is not a smart or effective strategy.

If Trump wanted to succeed as President of the US, not his base, he should have started out with things both sides could easily agree upon. Reducing corporate tax rates, encouraging corporations to bring home profits and pay say 18% tax rate on those profits, and the infrastructure bill at say $400 billion for the first two years.

It is always easier to build on success, rather than griping about stuff.

Trump has shown he has the making of the biggest failure as a President in the history of the US. His failure will be our failure. Trump needs an education in reality. He is getting some real soon. The question is can he learn from his mistakes? If not, move over James Buchanan and Milliard Fillmore, there is a new king of the bottom rank.

I didn't listen to it live.
I find that my blood pressure stays within normal parameters if I can listen and pause (calm the fuck down), listen some more, pause (for more the fuck down) and so on...

I listened to a bit on NPR and was impressed that someone gave him a lesson not only on elocution but he spoke in a calm manner and was able to use more words than he has used in a long time. Thank the heavens above for teleprompters and perhaps someone who had the patience to show him how to give a speech.

The content that I have heard so far, is meh.
For once he said more truthful things than in the past, but that bar is set low.

I may not do right, but I do write,
I have bliss, joy, and happiness in my life,

Many things proposed are not possible with the GOP, but are shiny objects for the Dems and independents. Hard to believe anything will get accomplished.
