First Impression vs. Judgment
First Impression vs. Judgment My aunt and I had a debate over this subject a couple of weeks ago. She said that she doesn't judge people, but she makes an informed decision based upon her first impression of that person. I told her that she is judging a person. Was I wrong? Was she right? I feel that she was taking a politically correct stance on a simple subject opposed to being blunt. I fully admit it. I judge and I make no qualms about it. I look at the photos that are sent to me and pay attention to what is in the background. Let's be honest, in the back of my mind I think "if your home is a mess in the background, what else are you not taking care of??" I judge you based upon your writing skills. If the email you write has no grammar skills at all, you can bet I will not bother with you. If you cannot take the time to write "you're" instead of "ur," will you actually take the time to get me off when we meet? Or will you take short cuts there too? Describing all the things that I judge people on would be an exhaustive list. Human nature is to judge others. To compare, to determine and to figure out whether we will fit with each other or not. It is what we do naturally. If we all accept this instead of sugar coating it, we may all be better off in the long run. |

I think you have a number of valid points. I believe we don't really ever stop judging people in our lives. But that is an entirely different blog entry all together

Ya I decided to give it a shot! And absolutely. I just disagree with her description of her stance on it. She is judging. A first impression is simply a polite way of saying it

Its tough to be judgmental with a pair of long soft legs wrapped around your head But seriously, yes, I am an informed-decision-judgementalist: I take it all in and make up my mind fairly quickly.

I still judge with a face between my legs... Damn you devils advocate!! It is a skill though. To be able to make a quick judgment call is something that should not be taken for granted!
